Job Summary
We are seeking a versatile and highly skilled Mechanical Lab Senior Technician with deep expertise in wet layup composite manufacturing and hands-on prototyping. This role is ideal for someone with a broad set of technical skills—from CNC machining and mechanical assembly to air pressure painting, carpentry, and general fabrication. We value a creative problem-solver with a positive, can-do mindset, ready to contribute in a fast-paced, experimental workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform wet layup composite manufacturing, including material preparation, layup, vacuum bagging, curing, trimming, and post-processing.
- Execute high-quality air pressure painting and surface finishing on parts and prototypes.
- Support rapid prototyping and iterative builds of mechanical components and test assemblies.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot CNC machines, shop tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Construct jigs, fixtures, and custom tooling as needed to support development efforts.
- Handle general carpentry, mechanical assembly, and facility-level tasks with reliability and skill.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to bring conceptual designs to life.
- Contribute to the safety, organization, and efficiency of the workshop.
- Apply creative, resourceful problem-solving to day-to-day technical challenges.
Experience and Education
- Proven hands-on experience with wet layup composites (e.g., carbon fiber, fiberglass, epoxy systems). Skilled in air pressure painting and finishing techniques for composite or mechanical parts.
- Strong background in mechanical fabrication, CNC machine operation, and general workshop practices.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, including woodworking and assembly.
- Ability to read technical drawings and translate them into physical builds.
- Demonstrated creative problem-solving abilities in workshop settings.
- Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and willingness to take initiative.
- Comfortable working independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment
Key Skills
- Experience with additional composite methods (e.g., vacuum infusion, prepreg).
- Background in aerospace, automotive, or product development environments.
