About POWERTECH

POWERTECH is a center of excellence for propulsion technologies, specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of combustion engines, expendable turbojet engines, and turbofan engines for a wide range of aerospace, defence, and autonomous applications, including fixed- and rotary-wing UAVs and other advanced platforms.

About the Role

We are looking for an engineer who can help solve difficult additive manufacturing challenges across design, process development, and manufacture. This role is suited to someone who enjoys operating in technically demanding environments where requirements are often incomplete, problems are rarely straightforward, and engineering judgement matters.

You will be expected not only to execute work, but to identify opportunities, solve ambiguous engineering problems, and help shape the direction of AM development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and manufacture of advanced LPBF metal AM components
  • Drive DfAM activities to improve performance, manufacturability, and part consolidation
  • Define build strategies including orientation, support methodology, segmentation, and parameter selection
  • Diagnose and resolve complex AM manufacturing issues including distortion, residual stress, cracking, recoater interaction, and process instability
  • Collaborate with design owners and cross-functional teams to mature components from concept through manufacture
  • Develop scalable AM workflows, standards, and engineering best practices

What We Are Looking For

Required

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field
  • Strong experience with metal additive manufacturing, particularly LPBF
  • Strong understanding of DfAM principles and AM process physics
  • Strong CAD capability (NX, Solidworks, Creo, or similar)
  • Ability to work independently and drive technical activities forward

Preferred

  • Experience with aerospace, propulsion, defence, or high-performance engineering applications
  • Experience with thermal distortion mitigation and support optimisation
  • Familiarity with process development and qualification activities
  • Experience in CFD simulation
  • Experience with AM simulation, parameter development, or scan strategy optimisation

What Success Looks Like

  • Identifies problems before they become blockers
  • Makes sound engineering decisions under uncertainty
  • Balances technical excellence with practical delivery
  • Thinks beyond immediate tasks and considers system-level impact
  • Drives projects forward proactively with limited direction

Application Requirement

As part of your application, please include a short personal example (approximately 200–400 words) describing:

  • A significant additive manufacturing or engineering problem you encountered
  • The root cause or competing hypotheses you considered
  • How you approached the problem technically and strategically
  • The trade-offs, constraints, or uncertainties involved
