ABOUT THE ROLE
The Commodity Manager — Mechanical parts owns the end-to-end sourcing strategy, supplier base, and commercial performance for the mechanical commodity group: investment casting, Additive Manufacturing, CNC machining, and sheet metal fabrication. The role balances cost, quality, delivery, and supply risk across the category, builds and manages the Preferred Supplier List (PSL), and drives the category toward aerospace Tier-1-prime sourcing discipline.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Commodity Strategy & Sourcing
- Own and continuously refine the multi-year sourcing strategy for investment casting, AM, CNC machining, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Apply Kraljic segmentation to the category; identify leverage vs. strategic/bottleneck positioning and adjust sourcing posture accordingly.
- Build, maintain, and govern the Preferred Supplier List (PSL) for the mechanical commodity group.
- Lead RFI/RFQ/RFP cycles; negotiate price, lead time, MOQ, Incoterms, and payment terms.
- Support make-vs-buy and dual-source decisions in line with the dual-source policy for critical parts
Supplier Development
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify new casting, machining, and sheet metal suppliers globally and regionally.
- Drive cost-down initiatives — should-cost modeling, VA/VE, and supplier-led innovation (SLI) proposals.
- Partner with Supply Chain Quality on supplier performance reviews; escalate and resolve chronic quality or delivery issues.
Program & Cross-Functional Support:
- Provide DFM (design-for-manufacturability) input to Engineering for castings, machined parts, and sheet metal assemblies.
- Manage capacity planning, lead-time forecasting, and production ramp readiness with key suppliers.
- Own and maintain commodity-level risk register entries — single-source exposure, capacity constraints, geopolitical/material risk.
Commercial & Governance
- Track and report commodity spend, savings, and total cost of ownership (TCO) against program KPIs (target: -8% TCO YoY).
- Present category performance and strategy updates at Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs).
- Own supplier contracts for the category — pricing agreements, audit rights, and business-continuity clauses.
Reporting & KPI Traceability:
- Maintain structured daily, weekly, and monthly reporting. Compile monthly reports linked to KPI targets with all figures
- traceable to supplier performance for full audit readiness.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 8-12 years of sourcing/category management experience in investment casting, CNC machining, and sheet metal fabrication, ideally in aerospace or defense manufacturing.
- Strong technical grounding in casting processes, machining tolerances, and sheet metal fabrication methods.
- Experience managing an AS9100D-qualified supply base.
- Proven negotiation, should-cost modeling, and TCO analysis skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.
- SAP MM / Ariba or equivalent ERP/sourcing platform experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Category strategy and commercial extended experience
- Technical fluency across casting, machining, and sheet metal processes
- Negotiation and supplier relationship management
- Cross-functional leadership (engineering, quality, finance)
- Data-driven decision-making and risk management
