Key Responsibilities
- Perform welding and cutting activities using electric, gas, and inert gas shielded welding and cutting processes including material planning, and the physical layout, positioning, clamping and heating of metal (to include temperature control) in order to maintain integrity and minimise distortion.
- Use blueprints, templates, jigs and other guides to prepare, modify and/or fabricate metal items for all types of military track laying and/or wheeled vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure that all welding and cutting activities are accomplished in accordance with all technical manuals, KPIs and OEM specifications.
- Perform quality welding and cutting work as part of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System program.
- Select, prepare and adjust the welding and cutting equipment necessary to execute the required work.
- Select the welding and cutting consumables necessary to execute the required work.
- Use the proper welding or cutting techniques (including tip angle, flame motion and speed) that will produce the required results.
- Execute a variety of welds or cuts from simple to precision, determine the degree of disassembly and/or repair required, and what materials should be used.
- Undertake pre-heating, brazing, bead welding, tack welding, pressure welding, flame cutting and heat treating activities.
- Work with light gauge, heavy gauge and hardened metals; welding various items using flat, vertical, horizontal and overhead positions.
- Perform cyclic inspections and maintenance of all welding and cutting equipment.
- Ensure “unserviceable” welding and cutting materials are disposed of in accordance with all applicable directives.
- Complete maintenance related documentation such as maintenance tasks accomplished, direct labour hours consumed, vehicle specific information, spare part request forms, etc.
- Comply with all safety, housekeeping and environmental directives.
- Ensure all issued tools, uniforms and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is accounted for, maintained and secured.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of all company information.
- Support other members of the Allied Trades in fulfilling their roles.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Manager, Allied Trades Workshop.
Experience & Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience performing welding, cutting and/or fabrication is required.
Key Skills
- Previous military experience or welding training is an advantage.
- The ability to interpret technical drawings and/or blueprints is preferred.
- Previous experience using MIG, TIG and Plasma welding and cutting equipment is an advantage.
- Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office software and SAP is preferred.
- The ability to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally is required.
