Job Title: Director – Opportunity & Proposal Management
Job Purpose
The Director of Opportunity & Opportunity Management is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing the proposals development process and the management of business opportunities within the organization. This role entails collaborating with various internal stakeholders to develop winning proposals, establish best practices, and enhance the company’s market position. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in proposal management, business development, and leadership, with a focus on driving growth and ensuring quality deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement strategic plans, process and procedure for the proposal and opportunity management function to align with the company’s goals and objectives.
- Lead the qualification, and prioritization of new business opportunities in collaboration with business development teams.
Proposal Development:
- Oversee the end-to-end proposal management process, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions that meet or exceed client expectations.
- Guide the proposal team in crafting compelling narratives, ensuring alignment with client needs and strategic messaging.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including clients, group entities, technical, finance, legal teams, to gather inputs and ensure compliance with all specifications and requirements.
- Foster a collaborative environment to enhance communication and knowledge sharing across departments.
Team Development and Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of proposal and bid managers, writers, and support staff.
- Conduct regular training sessions to improve skills in proposal writing, project management, and compliance.
Quality Control and Best Practices:
- Establish and implement best practices for proposal development, including templates, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
- Review and evaluate proposals for quality, accuracy, and compliance with company and client standards.
Market Insights and Analysis:
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, competitive landscape, and potential opportunities.
- Stay informed about industry developments to enhance the proposal strategy and maintain a competitive edge.
Performance Metrics and Reporting:
- Develop and track performance metrics for the proposal process and opportunity management activities.
- Provide regular reports to executive leadership on proposal success rates, opportunities pipeline, and team performance.
Client Engagement:
- Engage with clients and stakeholders during the proposal process, ensuring clarity of requirements and expectations.
- Represent the organization in pre-bid meetings, presentations, and negotiations, as necessary.
Experience and Education
- 15+ years of experience in proposal management, business development, or related roles, with a significant portion in leadership positions, preferably within Defense & Aerospace industry.
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or management is essential, while a master's degree is desirable. Education at a reputable university is advantageous.
- Proven track record of successfully leading proposal efforts resulting in contract awards.
- Strong knowledge of proposal processes, compliance, and best practices in defense and aerospace.
- Excellent strategic thinking, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
