Job Summary:

Provide a Development strategy for the Engine Subsystems work group in a Design and Support capability for Propulsion in Halcon Systems. Reporting to the Director of Air Propulsion, executing specialized engineering tasks related to key areas in the functional air breathing engine system.

Key Accountabilities:

Air Power Systems Development:

  • Provide an in-house subsystems leadership capability to support the development of subsystems of the Air Power Department. This would include the design of high speed electrical motors, electric motor control systems, plasma ignition systems, ECU hardware and software development as well as various software tool development, particularly for test equipment.
  • Undertake design and support work throughout the life-cycle of the system under development, for all phases of conceptual design, preliminary design, detail design and development, manufacture, production, end-use support and phase-out/disposal
  • Perform precise engineering calculations using theoretical methods as well as computational simulations

Project Management:

  • Work with suppliers to produce high precision and quality designed components within the schedule of the project.
  • Organization of engineering arrangements to meet the objectives of the department.

Innovation and Technology Advancement:

  • Revise designs based on the latest technology in manufacturing and material science.
  • Optimization of designed parts for manufacturability using innovative approaches to design

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Lead, mentor and coach lower level engineers in related disciplines.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Establish test specifications and procedures to ensure that all design requirements are met


Experience & Education Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years RELEVANT experience, with a Master’s degree or Ph.D in a directly applicable sub-component of the gas turbine engine subsystem.
  • Registered with an international associated aerospace or propulsion society.Proven technical competence, including managing multidisciplinary requirements specifications within the gas turbine engine.
  • Strong technical knowledge of air power systems, including aircraft integration, propulsion, avionics, and mission systems.
  • Familiarity with military and defense industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Ability to contribute to and write technical proposals development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Program planning for a multi-year, multi-million dollar defense propulsion project.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to precision-guided munition air power systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of the required hardware and software tools necessary to implement a propulsion capability
  • Expert knowledge in the broad spectrum of mechanical engineering as related to gas turbine system development and manufacturing processes and materials.
