About POWERTECH
POWERTECH is a center of excellence for propulsion technologies, specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of combustion engines, expendable turbojet engines, and turbofan engines for a wide range of aerospace, defence, and autonomous applications, including fixed- and rotary-wing UAVs and other advanced platforms.
Job Summary
We are seeking an Engineer – Advanced Aerodynamics & Propulsion to drive the aerodynamic, thermodynamic, and architectural development of next-generation propulsion systems. This role spans compressible-flow modeling, conceptual and preliminary engine-cycle design, and performance assessment for advanced configurations such as high-speed propulsion, intakes, and novel engines architectures.
You will translate aerodynamic insights into system-level decisions, support feasibility studies, and help define design trade-offs for innovative propulsion concepts.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Engine Architecture & Conceptual Design
- Develop and evaluate new propulsion concepts using physics-based modeling.
- Lead preliminary cycle analyses and trade studies (thrust, SFC, weight, thermal and operability limits).
- Generate conceptual engine layouts, flow path definitions, and preliminary aerodynamic sizing and parametric studies.
- Build and improve tools for early-stage architecture assessment.
- Translate flow analyses into system-level impacts on thrust, cycle limits, efficiency, and operability.
- Support concept down-selection by integrating aerodynamic, cycle, and feasibility insights.
Aerodynamic Modeling & Process Development
- Model and simulate internal and external aerodynamics across various flow regimes.
- Analyze compressible-flow phenomena such as shocks, expansions, and shock-boundary layer interactions.
- Evaluate performance of intakes, nozzles, and cooling/secondary air systems.
- Assess distortion, stability margins, flow separation, and aerodynamic efficiency.
- Implement robust methods for compressible-flow estimation in preliminary design.
Testing, Validation & Model Correlation
- Support engine test campaigns and component experiments to validate predictions.
- Integrate empirical data to refine models and quantify uncertainty.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related field with focus on aerodynamics or propulsion.
- 7+ years of experience in aerospace or advanced propulsion systems.
- Strong foundation in compressible-flow theory and propulsion system concepts.
- Hands-on experience with Python for modeling, simulation automation, and data processing.
Desirable but not required:
- AMESIM, AxStream, or Siemens Studio experience.
- Multidisciplinary optimization.
- CFD & CAD skills for geometry preparation, concepts investigation and detailed modelling.
Skills & Attributes
- Ability to combine theoretical, analytical, and computational insights into cohesive design decisions.
- Strong communication skills with ability to influence early design choices.
- High attention to detail and excellent technical documentation skills.
