Job Summary:
The General Counsel will provide strategic legal guidance and support to the organization, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while managing legal risks. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership and various departments to promote and protect the organization’s interests.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develop and implement legal strategies that align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Provide expert legal advice to the management on matters related to contracts, compliance, intellectual property, government regulations, and disputes.
- Ensure the organization’s compliance with applicable defence, procurement, export control, and cybersecurity laws and regulations.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting the organization and advise on necessary adjustments.
- Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and review of contracts with government agencies, suppliers, and other stakeholders. - Assess risk exposure and implement measures to mitigate risks associated with contractual obligations.
- Managing and resolving commercial disputes, including mediation, arbitration, and litigation.
- Develop and implement policies to address potential legal disputes before they escalate to litigation.
- Support the organization’s governance processes, including Board meetings and corporate compliance.
- Maintain corporate records and ensure adherence to corporate governance best practices.
- Oversee the organization’s intellectual property strategy, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
- Advise on the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
- Develop and implement training programs on legal compliance, ethical standards, and best practices for employees at all levels.
- Foster a culture of legal awareness and compliance throughout the organization.
- Collaborate with external legal counsel, government agencies, industry associations, and other stakeholders as needed-
- Represent the organization in legal proceedings, negotiations, and discussions with external stakeholders. projects and perform responsibilities designated by the Department head and the relevant hierarchy;
Experience & Education Qualifications:
- Master degree in law LLM/LLB or equivalent.
- A minimum of 20 years of legal experience, preferably within the defence industry or related fields.
- Experience in General Corporate/Commercial/Transactional areas either within a law firm or as In-house Counsel. - Experience with joint venture arrangements and commercial law
- Strong knowledge of defence contracting regulations, compliance issues, and government procurement processes. - Proven track record of managing complex legal issues and leading legal teams.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to think strategically and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
- Strong ethical judgment and commitment to the organization’s mission and values
