ABOUT THE ROLE
The HSE Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment by implementing health and safety policies, conducting workplace inspections, identifying hazards, assessing risks, and ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations and company procedures. The role also involves educating employees on safe work practices and supporting the prevention of accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct routine workplace and site safety inspections.
- Identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Ensure employees and contractors comply with safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and awareness training.
- Monitor the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Review risk assessments, method statements, permits to work, and other safety documentation.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Prepare incident investigation reports and recommend preventive measures.
- Maintain safety records, inspection reports, training records, and other HSE documentation.
- Monitor high-risk activities such as working at height, lifting operations, confined-space entry, excavation, hot work, and electrical work.
- Inspect emergency equipment, fire extinguishers, first-aid facilities, access routes, and emergency exits.
- Participate in emergency drills and support emergency-response activities.
- Immediately report serious hazards and unsafe practices to management.
- Follow up on corrective and preventive actions until completion.
- Participate in safety meetings and HSE audits.
- Promote a positive safety culture and encourage employees to report hazards and near misses.
- Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and management on health and safety matters.
- Keep updated on applicable occupational health and safety requirements
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Aerospace, Defence is desirable
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Recognized safety certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA training, or equivalent is preferred.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Previous experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar HSE role is mandatory
Experience
- At least 5 years engineering and IMS experience
- Aerospace, Defence experience is desirable
- Experience of IMS process, tools and experience
