Position Overview:

The Head of Procurement will be responsible for developing and executing the organization’s procurement strategy to support the production of aerospace propulsion systems, including turbofan and micro jet engines. This leadership role requires a seasoned professional with deep expertise in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier relationship management, and procurement risk mitigation within a high-tech manufacturing environment. The Head of Procurement will lead a team to ensure cost-effective and timely acquisition of materials, components, and services, while maintaining high quality and compliance standards. This role will work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, finance, and quality teams, as well as with external suppliers, to align procurement activities with overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Procurement team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and communicate the procurement function’s vision, goals, and strategic objectives in alignment with overall company priorities and production needs.
  • Provide leadership in the development and execution of procurement strategies, including sourcing, supplier management, and cost optimization, to support operational efficiency and business growth.

Procurement and Supplier Management:

  • Oversee the end-to-end procurement of materials, components, and services essential for the production of aerospace propulsion systems.
  • Strategic Sourcing: Develop and implement sourcing strategies that ensure access to high-quality, cost-effective materials from a diverse, competitive, and reliable supplier base. Proactively identify and qualify new suppliers aligned with long-term business objectives.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, strategic relationships with key suppliers. Conduct regular performance evaluations, establish KPIs, and drive continuous improvement in quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Lead contract negotiations to secure favorable terms, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to supplier disruptions, geopolitical factors, or quality issues, implementing contingency plans to ensure supply continuity.

Inventory and Logistics Management:

  • Collaborate with production, and planning teams to ensure optimal inventory levels, balancing cost-efficiency with production continuity and on-time delivery.
  • Support and coordinate with logistics teams to ensure timely and cost-effective transportation of procured materials and components to production sites.
  • Align procurement planning with logistics and inventory strategies to minimize lead times, reduce carrying costs, and prevent stockouts or overages.
  • Contribute to distribution planning by ensuring procurement timelines support customer delivery schedules and contractual obligations.

Supply Planning and Forecasting:

  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Management teams to develop accurate procurement forecasts aligned with production schedules and customer demand.
  • Ensure procurement activities are fully synchronized with production timelines, maintaining material availability while adapting to shifts in demand and operational priorities.
  • Leverage demand planning data to proactively adjust sourcing strategies and supplier commitments, minimizing delays and excess inventory.
  • Support integrated planning processes that connect procurement decisions with broader business objectives and capacity planning.

Risk Management and Mitigation:

  • Proactively identify and assess procurement-related risks, including supplier dependency, geopolitical instability, material shortages, and logistical vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and implement robust risk mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity and minimize the impact of supply disruptions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate risk awareness into procurement planning and decision-making processes.

Cost Optimization and Financial Management:

  • Lead cost-saving initiatives across procurement operations, focusing on value engineering, strategic sourcing, and total cost of ownership.
  • Collaborate with Finance and senior leadership to manage procurement budgets, reduce cost per unit, and optimize working capital through efficient inventory management.

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with applicable aerospace industry regulations and standards, including those established by the FAA, EASA, and other relevant authorities.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and Engineering teams to verify that all sourced materials and components meet rigorous safety, technical, and quality specifications.
  • Monitor supplier compliance with contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements; lead corrective actions and remediation efforts as needed to address non-conformance issues.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Communication:

  • Foster close collaboration with internal teams—including Manufacturing, Final Assembly Line, Engineering, and Product Management—to align procurement strategies with operational and production requirements.
  • Maintain transparent and regular communication with senior leadership regarding procurement performance, supplier metrics, inventory status, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with external stakeholders, including key suppliers, logistics partners, and, where applicable, customers, to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective material flow and product delivery.
  • Serve as a key liaison between procurement and other functions to drive alignment, resolve issues, and support strategic initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • At least 10 years of experience in procurement, logistics, and inventory management in a manufacturing or aerospace environment.
  • Proven experience in leadership roles, with a track record of building and leading high-performance teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace industry regulations, including FAA, EASA, and other certification requirements.
