Lead Range Conducting Officer - Emirati Talent
The Lead Range Conducting Officer (RCO) is responsible for leading and coordinating the work of Range Conducting Officers across Land, Maritime, Air, and Electronic Warfare (EW) domains. The role ensures that test activities are properly planned, safely executed, and fully compliant with operational and regulatory standards.
As the Lead RCO, this position takes the lead on complex or high-risk trials, supervises range operations, and ensures effective coordination among stakeholders, contractors, and test participants.
Key Accountabilities:
Leadership & Oversight
- Lead and coordinate the work of Land, Maritime, Air, and EW RCOs to ensure effective test operations.
- Assign RCOs to tests based on expertise and qualifications, verifying their readiness and competency.
- Provide on-the-ground leadership during trials, ensuring strict adherence to test plans and safety standards.
- Act as the RCO for complex or novel tests, setting the benchmark for technical and operational excellence.
Test Planning
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop detailed test plans that address objectives, requirements, and safety considerations.
- Lead all range-related functions during test preparation and execution, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
- Lead the development of risk assessments with specialists and validate them against safety and regulatory standards.
Test Execution & Safety
- Conduct safety briefings before each trial, covering protocols, emergency procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Oversee execution of tests, monitoring activities to prevent deviations and maintain test integrity.
- Verify correct implementation of safety traces, ensuring sentries and security measures are deployed as planned.
Range Setup, Closure & Remediation
- Supervise range setup, verifying equipment functionality, range configurations, and safety readiness.
- Ensure secure closure of the test area in line with safety requirements, preventing unauthorized access.
- Oversee post-test remediation, including equipment removal, clean-up, and restoration of the range.
Documentation & Improvement
- Maintain accurate documentation of test plans, risk assessments, incidents, and observations.
- Record lessons learned and support continuous improvement of range safety and operational practices.
Experience & Qualifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Defense Studies, Safety Management, or related field.
- Certified Range Safety Officer (RSO) or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in range operations, test planning, or related defense environments.
- Strong knowledge of safety principles, range management, and defense-sector compliance requirements.
- In-depth knowledge of test types across Land, Maritime, Air, and EW domains.
- Familiarity with explosives and ammunition handling, defense systems, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
- Experience leading operational teams in technical or defense environments.
- Strong decision-making, planning, and coordination skills under pressure.
- Fluency in English; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
