Overview of the Role
The Lead Range Conducting Officer (RCO) is expected to plan and coordinate the work all of the Land and Maritime, Air and EW RCOs. The Lead RCO is expected to have a working knowledge of all types of tests that take place at the Range. Main Tasks and Responsibilities
- Ensure that the right RCO is applied to each test.
- Ensure that all of the RCOs are competent to conduct the tests that they are responsible for.
- Work as the RCO on complex and novel tests
- Produce an occupational risk assessment for each test that the lead RCO is responsible for (checked by the HSEA).
- Conduct safety briefings at each test that the lead RCO is responsible for.
- Work with all range functions and contractors to put all of the test equipment and infrastructure in place that the lead RCO is responsible for.
- Manage contractors when they are working during the preparation elements of the tests that the lead RCO is responsible for.
- Ensure that the correct remediation activities are conducted post-test for the tests that the lead RCO is responsible for.
- Supervise the range team at each test that the lead RCO is responsible for.
- Ensure that the test plan is followed at each test that the lead RCO is responsible for.
- Ensure that the safety trace applied to each test is implemented correctly, with sentries deployed as per the safety plan that the lead RCO is responsible for.
