Role Purpose

The Incoming Inspection Metrology Engineer is responsible for dimensional and metrology inspection of incoming parts and materials, ensuring full compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements before release to production.

 

Key Responsibilities

Incoming Inspection & Metrology

  • Perform incoming dimensional inspection of mechanical parts, assemblies, and materials using calibrated metrology equipment
  • Verify compliance against:
    • Engineering drawings
    • Technical specifications
    • CTQ / SC / CC characteristics
  • Execute inspection according to inspection plans, control plans, and sampling rules
  • Identify, segregate, and label non‑conforming material

 

Measurement & Equipment

  • Use and maintain metrology equipment, including:
    • Calipers, micrometers, height gauges
    • Bore gauges, dial indicators
    • Surface roughness testers
    • CMM (if applicable)
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated, fit for use, and properly handled
  • Support MSA (Measurement System Analysis) activities as required

 

Documentation & Traceability

  • Record inspection results accurately in SAP / MES / quality systems
  • Maintain full traceability by serial number, batch, or lot
  • Prepare and manage:
    • Inspection records
    • Measurement reports
    • NCRs (Non‑Conformance Reports)
  • Support internal and external quality and regulatory audits

 

Quality & Escalation

  • Immediately escalate non‑conformities to:
    • FAL Quality Lead
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Procurement / Supplier Quality (as applicable)
  • Support containment actions and re‑inspection after disposition
  • Ensure no non‑conforming material is released to production without formal approval

 

Cross‑Functional Interface

  • Interface closely with:
    • Manufacturing Engineering (Industrialization)
    • Assembly / FAL teams
    • Procurement and Supplier Quality
  • Provide technical feedback on recurrent issues or supplier performance
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to incoming quality

 

Education

  • Technical Diploma or equivalent in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Industrial Technology
    • Metrology or related field

 

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years experience in:
    • Incoming inspection
    • Metrology
    • Aerospace, automotive, or high‑precision manufacturing environment
  • Experience in propulsion, engines, or rotating equipment is a strong advantage
