Key Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Setup and operate/run a wide variety of foundry pattern making and sand casting equipment in order to accomplish the manufacturing and maintenance mission.
  • Create the patterns for casting with wood, metal or other material as per the requirements.
  • Perform basic sand control tests using different sand control and testing equipment to ensure compliance to the existing industry standards of sand moulding and casting processes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams and schematics in order to accomplish the desired cast product form and material composition in accordance with part specifications.
  • Verify the conformance of finished machining using conventional or digital precision measuring instruments.
  • Comply with all safety, housekeeping and environmental directives.
  • Maintain all equipment by undertaking all user preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure all issued tools, uniforms and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is accounted for, maintained and secured.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of all company information.
  • Support other members of the Fabrication Workshop in fulfilling their roles.
  • Perform other duties as required by their line manager and the Manager, Fabrication.

 

 

Experience and Education:

  • A high school diploma is required, a college diploma or pattern making/foundry techniques certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a foundry technician performing various tasks is required; experience with sand preparation, moulding processes, charging, melting and pouring of ferrous and non-ferrous metals is preferred.
  • Previous military or manufacturing industry experience is an advantage.
  • The ability to lift, carry and push items weighing over 20kg is required.
  • The ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings/schematics is required.
  • The ability to read and use conventional and digital precision measuring instruments and tools is required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally is required.
