Key Responsibilities:

  • Elicit, analyse and document requirements for aero-mechanical sub-systems and related work to meet system requirements.  Include verification requirements.
  • Identify, model and evaluate the practical alternatives to implement the required functionality and performance, considering factors like fault tolerance.
  • Model, simulate, analyse and test aero-dynamics, thermo-dynamics and aero-structures/aero-elasticity, including stress, flutter, modes, vibration and fatigue.
  • Develop, check or approve mechanical designs and documentation, including drawings, fabrication, assembly, integration, test, operation and support jigs/equipment, instructions, results and reports.
  • Participate in prototyping and testing, including data reduction, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with company processes and procedures, best practices, regulations and standards, while considering cost, schedule, technical and safety risks.
  • Manage configuration throughout the development lifecycle, including change control, baselines, and traceability between requirements, design, and implementation.
  • Participate in material review boards and change control boards to diagnose and resolve non-compliances.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design, processes, capabilities, professional knowledge and skills.
  • Ensure accurate estimation of work and completion within schedule and budget.
  • Collaborate with Executive Manager SHEQ and Product Safety Manager to ensure quality and product safety.
  • Identify, analyse and mitigate aero-mechanical safety risks.
  • Relieve the line manager’s burden where practical.

 

Experience & Education:

  • At least 10 years’ experience in aero-mechanical development, verification, integration, operations and support of advanced military systems.
  • B Eng or BSc Eng in aero-mechanical engineering.  A degree in mechanical engineering with sufficient aeronautical subjects and/or experience may be considered.
  • Relevant qualifications, certifications, courses or experience in any of the following will be advantageous:
  • Aeronautical engineering, systems engineering, model based/digital engineering, modelling, simulation, tools, reliability, maintainability and safety (Mil-Std-882, ARP4761A, DO-160, Mil-Std-810 or related), particularly in the context of defence and aerospace industries.

 

Key Skills:

  • Competent to review and approve aerodynamic, aeroelastic, flight dynamic, structural, mechanical, and safety related work, including interactions at system level
  • Able to identify and mitigate competency gaps in the above disciplines
  • Proven track record collaborating in multi-disciplinary engineering teams to achieve desired outcomes and solve complex problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive and collaborative, can-do attitude
  • Strong foundation in aero-mechanical engineering principles, practices, tools and methods.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail while not losing overview.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality documentation.
