ABOUT THE ROLE
The Principal CAD Designer Mechanical is responsible for developing, maintaining, and controlling mechanical design data packs, manufacturing drawings, and harness documentation across Halcon products.
The role requires advanced expertise in Creo, Windchill PLM, manufacturing documentation, and configuration management while supporting engineering development, production tooling, and mentoring junior designers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The successful candidate will ensure all design outputs meet applicable industry standards and are fully aligned with production and configuration control requirements.
- Develop and maintain mechanical CAD models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and product data packs using Creo and SolidWorks.
- Create harness layouts, harness documentation, and detailed production drawings to support engineering and manufacturing activities.
- Manage CAD data, revisions, BOMs, and Engineering Change Requests/Notices within Windchill PLM and configuration-controlled environments.
- Design production tooling, jigs, and support equipment while providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior designers and draughtsmen.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical CAD design, detailing, and manufacturing documentation.
- Advanced proficiency in Creo and SolidWorks, including part modelling, assemblies, harnessing, sheet metal, and drawing modules.
- Strong knowledge of Windchill PLM, GD&T, BS 8888, ISO standards, and configuration management processes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience within defence, aerospace, precision engineering, or other highly regulated industries.
Proven experience leading technical reviews, mentoring junior designers, and supporting continuous improvement within a Drawing Office environment.
