About the Role

HALCON is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer – Mechanical Design & Specification to provide technical leadership and mechanical engineering expertise across guided munition and defense development programs.
The successful candidate will lead mechanical design activities throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through testing, qualification, production, and sustainment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design activities across all phases of product development.
Support guided munition and defense system development programs.
Perform engineering calculations, structural assessments, and simulation-based analyses.
Develop engineering specifications, technical documentation, and design packages.
Establish test specifications, qualification procedures, and verification plans.
Evaluate mechanical system performance against design requirements.
Support manufacturing, integration, testing, production, and lifecycle activities.
Drive engineering excellence through design reviews and configuration management.
Mentor and supervise engineers while providing technical leadership.
Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management teams.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum:

12 years' experience with a Bachelor's degree; or
10 years' experience with a Master's degree; or
9 years' experience with a PhD.

Experience within aerospace, defense, missile systems, guided munitions, or similar industries.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles related to product development, manufacturing, and production.
Proven experience in engineering analysis, calculations, and technical problem-solving.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting guided munitions, missile systems, aerospace platforms, or defense products.
Advanced proficiency in CAD software and PLM/PDM systems.
Experience using simulation and engineering analysis tools, including FEA.
Knowledge of design-for-manufacturing, qualification testing, and production support.
Previous experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
Knowledge of defense industry standards and configuration management processes.
