Job Summary

The weapon logic and control systems engineer should be a well-experienced professional in the field of weapon logic system control, software, artificial intelligence and be skilled in guiding multiple teams towards implementations of solutions. This engineer would need to write requirements, system element specifications, handle verification as well as certification of the weapon logic and control.

Key Accountabilities:

Weapon Logic and Control Engineering:

  • Competency and previous experience in managing the acquisition of a multi-disciplinary Weapon Logic and Control (WLC) System in collaboration with specialists in their respective fields, over the full System Engineering Life Cycle:
  • Weapon Logic:
    • Primary: e.g. target acquisition, target tracking, flight path calculation, guidance commands, including such related WLC states and modes, weapon safety logic, etc.
    • Secondary: e.g. telemetry, BIT and health policy, ground support policy, application of AI (e.g. threat analysis, target identification, flight path optimisation, etc.)
  • Weapon Control: e.g. aerodynamic characterisation, input sensors and control actuators characterisation, autopilot definition
  • Guidance Systems: e.g. command guidance, beam riding, homing guidance, inertial guidance, GPS guidance

  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE): - Propose, obtain buy-in and implement sound multi-disciplinary System Engineering practices related to weapon logic and control, including a thorough understanding of Product Decomposition Structures and intricacies of the V-model, both down and up, as per the INCOSE processes.

  • Strong ability to perform product decomposition during the System Engineering process by:
    • Understanding, refining and managing higher level Weapon requirements,
    • Evaluating and proposing WLC solutions by developing system architecture designs within a WLC Product Breakdown Structure
    • Defining the specifications for the lower level WLC decomposed system elements & interfaces between them
    • Allocating identified functionality and characteristics to the decomposed WLC system elements/sub-systems & interfaces.

  • Special dedication will be required when specifying non-physical aspects and allocating them to the various decomposed components and their interfaces, such as software logic, control, safety and health components – as well as the orchestration and interaction between such components.
  • Ensure the generation of MBSE artefacts, including their traceability and configuration management, through the utilisation of a model-based approach and tools (such as Jama for Requirements Management and Genesys for system design), to manage requirements and verification, and system level integration.
  • Set high standards in the development of model-based WLC System Engineering that adhere to industry best practices.
  • Very knowledgeable of, and experienced in, the application of technical specification practices, especially considering international standards, practices, and certification, e.g. MIL-STDs, IEC/IEEE standards, SAE standards (e.g. ARP 4754A/B), RTCA standards (e.g. DO-178C), System Modelling Language (SysML), etc.
  • Be able to provide guidance to juniors regarding specification practices, testing and verification practices and methods, system integration and configuration management.
  • Leadership and upskilling of team members:
    • Set an example and upskill others in their knowledge, practices and methods.
    • Obtain buy-in of team members to implement best practice processes.
    • Supervise and mentor the quality of work of senior and junior staff.
    • Mentor and train senior and junior personnel.
  • Provide inputs to management regarding future system requirements and needs. Assist in the generation of a technology and product roadmap

Experience & Education Qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree (Bachelor)
  • Knowledge of system control, software subsystem design and a basic understanding of artificial intelligence, but strong interface design skills
  • 15 years’ experience in the control engineering domain.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the certification/classification methodology of systems.
  • The application of technical specification practices, especially considering international standards, practices, and certification, e.g. MIL-STDs, IEC/IEEE standards, SAE standards (e.g. ARP 4754A/B), RTCA standards (e.g. DO-178C and/or ISO26262 ), System Modelling Language (SysML), etc
