ABOUT THE ROLE

About POWERTECH

POWERTECH is a center of excellence for propulsion technologies, specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of combustion engines, expendable turbojet engines, and turbofan engines for a wide range of aerospace, defence, and autonomous applications, including fixed- and rotary-wing UAVs and other advanced platforms.

Purpose

The Senior Product Quality Engineer holds product approval authority for supplier-manufactured parts across Powertech propulsion programs, including turbofan, microjet and piston engines. The role reviews and approves supplier advanced product quality planning, production part approval and first article inspection submissions, defines inspection and acceptance requirements, and coordinates configuration and change management between Design Engineering, Supply Chain and suppliers. The Senior Product Quality Engineer works closely with Industrialization & Supplier Development, Metrology & Inspection Engineering, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, Assembly and supplier quality teams, and provides technical leadership to junior Product Quality Engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Approval & Gate Authority

  • Review and approve supplier APQP submissions including process flow diagrams, PFMEA, control plans and measurement systems analysis, in line with AS9145.
  • Review and approve production part approval (PPAP) packages against the agreed submission level, and issue written approval prior to serial delivery.
  • Review and approve first article inspection reports in accordance with AS9102, including ballooned drawings, characteristic accountability and actual measured results.
  • Determine full or partial FAI requirements arising from design, process, material, tooling, location or sub-tier changes, and from production lapses.
  • Hold approval gates closed where evidence is insufficient, and articulate the technical basis for the decision to program and commercial stakeholders.
  • Review supplier quality requirement compliance and assess supplier submissions against contracted obligations.

Inspection Planning & Acceptance Definition

  • Define inspection and acceptance requirements for supplier-manufactured parts, including sampling strategy, inspection method and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop and issue incoming inspection plans to Assembly, and support validation of inspection methods and gauging.
  • Define key characteristics with Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering, and ensure they are correctly flowed to suppliers and reflected in control plans.
  • Review measurement systems analysis and gauge capability evidence supporting product acceptance.
  • Assess supplier process capability evidence against Cpk requirements on designated key characteristics.

Nonconformance, Material Review & Concession

  • Create and administer material review records during new product introduction, and coordinate disposition with Design Engineering as design authority.
  • Review supplier concession and deviation requests, assess technical justification and containment, and coordinate approval.
  • Review supplier 8D submissions and verify effectiveness of corrective actions, including read-across to similar parts and processes.
  • Support Supply Chain on serial-phase nonconformance matters requiring product approval or configuration expertise.

Configuration & Change Management

  • Coordinate design change implementation with Design Engineering, Supply Chain and suppliers, ensuring changes reach suppliers only through released, revision-controlled drawings and formal change notices.
  • Assess change classification and determine resulting FAI, PPAP and inspection plan impacts.
  • Verify supplier acknowledgement of change notices, implementation dates and serial or batch cut-in points.
  • Maintain product approval status records and configuration traceability for assigned part numbers.

Supplier Quality Engagement

  • Participate in supplier gate reviews and industrialization reviews as the product approval authority.
  • Conduct on-site product audits and source inspection where required, including verification of inspection practice and records.
  • Support supplier readiness for product approval submissions without assuming responsibility for their preparation.

Technical Leadership

  • Act as technical authority for product approval and acceptance within the team.
  • Mentor Product Quality Engineer I and II staff and support their development.
  • Develop and standardize product approval procedures, review checklists and acceptance criteria.
  • Report product approval status, submission quality trends and escape data to management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications
