The Role

 

We are seeking a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert – Actuation Systems to serve as the technical authority for all aspects of actuation systems within UAV platforms, including flight control, landing gear, payload, and subsystem actuators. This role is pivotal in leading the design, integration, and validation of electromechanical and hydraulic actuation solutions, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with industry standards. The SME will drive innovation in actuation technology, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver mission-critical solutions for ADASI’s autonomous systems portfolio.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Define and maintain actuation systems architecture across UAV platforms, including control surfaces, landing gear, weapon release, and payload positioning systems.

  • Provide strategic direction for technology adoption, including smart actuators, redundant systems, and power-optimized designs.

  • Serve as design authority, reviewing and approving technical documents, drawings, and engineering reports.

  • Lead system requirements development, interface definitions, and verification planning.

  • Oversee integration with power systems, avionics, structures, and software interfaces.

  • Guide modeling, simulation, and failure mode analysis for actuator performance and reliability.

  • Supervise environmental, functional, endurance, and EMC/EMI testing.

  • Evaluate and integrate advanced actuation technologies into designs.

  • Mentor engineers and foster cross-functional collaboration.

  • Engage suppliers and OEMs for component development and qualification.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (Required).

  • Master’s Degree in Flight Control Systems, Aerospace Mechatronics, or related field (Preferred).

  • Minimum 10 years in aerospace/defense with direct actuation system design experience, including 4+ years in an SME or senior role.

  • Experience with UAVs, military aircraft, or guided systems.

  • Expertise in linear and rotary actuators, servo systems, and redundancy architectures.

  • Knowledge of relevant standards: DO-160, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, ARP4754, AS9100.

  • Preferred certifications: INCOSE CSEP, OEM-specific actuation certifications, AS9100D Lead Auditor.

 

Technical Tools

 

  • Simulation Tools: MATLAB/Simulink, Amesim, Modelica.

  • CAD Tools: CATIA, NX, SolidWorks.

  • Requirements Management: IBM DOORS or equivalent.

  • Integration Tools: Avionics and mission computer control systems.
