As part of the Space & Cyber Technologies cluster at EDGE, one of the world’s leading advanced technology groups, KATIM delivers trust in a world where cyber risks are a constant threat, and fulfils the increasing demand for advanced cyber capabilities by delivering robust, secure, end-to-end solutions centered on four core business units: Networks, Ultra Secure Mobile Devices, Applications, and Satellite Communications. Our talented team of cross functional experts continually takes-on new challenges. We work with the energy of a start-up yet the discipline of a large business to make solutions and products work for our customers at scale.
Job Purpose
Own the physical design of all hardware products across the portfolio. Translate product intent, engineering constraints, and user context into durable, manufacturable, and coherent industrial design. Drive consistency, usability, and execution quality from concept through production.
In this role you will engage with customers and end-users as well as partake in multi-disciplinary collaboration with teams like: Product Design, Product Management, Engineering and more.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead concept development, form exploration, and final industrial design
• Define enclosure architecture, internal layout, and mechanical integration
• Deliver production-ready CAD and documentation
• Design for real operating conditions (gloves, low visibility, stress, mobility)
• Optimize ergonomics, interaction, and physical usability
• Translate field scenarios into design decisions
• Work closely with EE/ME to integrate PCBs, connectors, antennas, batteries
• Balance form factor with thermal, power, and structural constraints
• Resolve trade-offs early (size vs performance vs durability)
• Design for harsh environments (shock, vibration, dust, moisture, temperature)
• Define sealing strategies, structural reinforcements, and material choices
• Ensure long-term durability and serviceability
• Define materials, finishes, tolerances, and assembly methods
• Collaborate with suppliers on DFM/DFA, tooling, and cost optimization
• Support EVT → DVT → PVT and ramp to production
• Establish a consistent industrial design language across products
• Standardize mechanical interfaces, modules, and mounting systems
• Enable reuse and scalability across product families
• Build and iterate prototypes (3D print, CNC, soft tooling)
• Validate ergonomics, usability, and durability through testing
• Incorporate field feedback into rapid design iterations
Education and Minimum Qualification
• Bachelor or Masters in Industrial design, Design, or relevant work experience
• 10-12 years industrial design for complex hardware products
• Proven delivery from concept to mass production
• Strong mechanical understanding and engineering collaboration
• Experience with rugged or high-reliability products
• Advanced CAD proficiency (Rhino, SolidWorks or equivalent)
• Experience working with manufacturing partners (tooling, injection molding, CNC)
Key Skills
• Enclosure design for electronics (PCB integration, connectors, antennas)
• Thermal-aware design (heat dissipation, material selection)
• Materials and finishes (plastics, metals, coatings)
• Tolerance stack-ups and assembly design
• Basic EMI/EMC awareness in physical design
