About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Production Technician (IMU) to coordinate and oversee the day-to-day assembly, testing, and maintenance activities within our IMU Production Facility. This role provides technical leadership across production operations, supports continuous improvement initiatives, mentors technicians, and ensures production schedules, quality standards, and operational objectives are consistently achieved.
The successful candidate will serve as the primary technical interface between Production, Engineering, and Quality teams and will deputize for the Production Manager (IMU) when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily production activities and coordinate work assignments across the IMU Production Area.
- Perform and oversee precision mechanical and electronic assembly of IMU products in accordance with established procedures.
- Execute build, test, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair activities while ensuring compliance with quality standards.
- Conduct advanced fault diagnostics, root cause investigations, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Develop, maintain, and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and production documentation.
- Manage kitting operations, inventory control, consumables replenishment, and accurate build records.
- Conduct first article inspections and verify production readiness prior to manufacturing activities.
- Monitor production performance metrics including OEE, yield, downtime, and quality indicators, escalating issues where required.
- Maintain production equipment, tools, fixtures, and assets through preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
- Manage calibration schedules and records while coordinating external calibration activities with the Quality team.
- Ensure compliance with 5S, HSE, ESD, LOTO, and TPM requirements throughout the production area.
- Act as the primary technical liaison between Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve product and process-related issues.
- Lead continuous improvement and Kaizen initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and operational performance.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and on-the-job training to technicians while supporting team capability development.
Requirements
Education
Minimum:
- Foundation Degree, HND, Advanced Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 4/5, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Electronics, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline.
Experience
- 5+ years' experience within an IMU, inertial sensor, gyroscope, navigation, aerospace, defence, or high-reliability manufacturing environment.
- Experience with IMU calibration, testing, verification, and fault diagnosis.
- Strong knowledge of OEE, TPM, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience leading technicians, coordinating workflows, and supporting production operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and production reporting systems.
