External Job Description
Key Responsibilities-
- Establish Configuration Management Processes: Develop and implement robust configuration management processes tailored to the unique requirements of UAV systems. Define configuration baselines, change control procedures, and version control strategies.
- Maintain Configuration Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive configuration documentation, including configuration baselines, specifications, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering change orders (ECOs).
- Manage Configuration Items: Identify and control configuration items (CIs) throughout their lifecycle, from initial design through production, testing, deployment, and obsolescence management. Ensure accurate identification, labeling, and tracking of CIs.
- Facilitate Change Control: Administer the change control process for all proposed changes to UAV configurations. Evaluate change requests, assess impacts, and coordinate approvals. Implement approved changes while maintaining configuration integrity.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Production Teams: Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure alignment between design intent, manufacturing processes, and configuration documentation. Provide configuration management support during design reviews, manufacturing reviews, and audits.
- Configuration Status Accounting: Establish mechanisms for tracking and reporting the status of configuration items, including their current versions, locations, and relationships. Generate configuration status reports as needed to support project milestones and customer deliverables.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to configuration management in the aerospace and defense sector. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations such as AS9100, ISO 9001, and EIA-649C.
Educational Background-
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- +10 years of experience in configuration management within the aerospace, defense, or UAV industry.
Professional Experience-
- In-depth knowledge of configuration management principles, processes, and tools (e.g., CMDB, PLM, PDM).
- Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001, EIA-649C).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage complex configurations across multiple product lines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Certification in Configuration Management (e.g., CMII, CMIIC) is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Ability to generate, maintain, and organize system specifications, design documents, test plans, release notes, and software/hardware manuals.
- Knowledge of document control procedures to ensure proper versioning and traceability of documents.
- Proficiency in setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting version control systems for UAV product development.
- Proficiency in managing the change control process, including the documentation, tracking, and approval of changes in the UAV configuration.
