Job Summary
The Turbine Aerodynamic Design Engineer II is responsible for supporting the aerodynamic design, analysis, and optimization of axial turbine stages for gas turbine or turbojet engines. The role focuses on blade and vane aerodynamics, performance, and efficiency, contributing across design, analysis, and testing phases.
Key Responsibilities
1. Aerodynamic Design Support
- Support design of turbine blades and vanes (profiles, angles, stacking)
- Assist in flowpath definition and stage matching
- Generate preliminary airfoil geometries
2. CFD Analysis
- Perform CFD simulations for turbine cascades and stages
- Analyze flow fields including losses, secondary flows, and heat transfer effects
- Support optimization of efficiency and pressure ratio
3. Performance & Operability
- Evaluate turbine performance under design and off-design conditions
- Support matching with compressor and combustor
- Assist in thermal and aerodynamic performance assessments
4. Testing & Validation
- Support rig and engine testing activities
- Assist in defining instrumentation requirements
- Analyze test data and compare with CFD predictions
5. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work with mechanical and thermal teams to ensure integrated design
- Support manufacturing and testing teams during development
6. Continuous Improvement
- Improve aerodynamic tools and methods
- Document lessons learned and best practices
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
- 4–7 years of experience in turbomachinery aerodynamic design
- Experience in turbine aerodynamics preferred
Technical Skills
- Understanding of turbine aerodynamics and flow physics
- Experinece with turbomachinery design tools (NREC, ADT, AXstrem, etc..)
- Experience with CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent, CFX, NUMECA, etc.)Familiarity with turbine performance and efficiency parameters
- Basic knowledge of heat transfer and cooling flows is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in small gas turbines or turbojet engines
- Exposure to multi-stage turbine design
- Experience with test data analysis
