Welder Fabrication Technician

Role Purpose

To execute welding and fabrication activities in support of propulsion system development and test facility operations. The role ensures all components are fabricated accurately, safely, and in compliance with engineering standards, contributing directly to system performance, durability, and reliability

Key Accountabilities
Fabrication & Welding Operations

• Perform TIG, MIG, and ARC welding on stainless steel, aluminium, and carbon steel components
• Fabricate, assemble, and fit mechanical structures, subassemblies, and engine-related components according to engineering drawings and work instructions
• Carry out cutting, grinding, shaping, and finishing operations to achieve required tolerances and surface quality standards
• Interpret technical drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication schematics with high accuracy
• Support assembly of test rigs, propulsion system components, and structural frameworks
• Perform visual inspection of welds and basic dimensional checks to ensure compliance with quality standards
  Workshop & Equipment Operations
• Operate welding machines, cutting tools, grinders, and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently
• Set up, calibrate, and maintain welding and fabrication tools to ensure consistent performance
• Ensure tools, equipment, and workstations are maintained in a clean, safe, and operational condition
• Report equipment faults or maintenance requirements to supervisors in a timely manner
  Safety & Compliance
• Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and internal safety procedures
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and follow safe handling practices for gases, materials, and welding equipment
• Comply with applicable welding codes, fabrication standards, and internal quality requirements
• Maintain awareness of fire safety and hot-work permit requirements in workshop environments
  Documentation & Reporting
• Record fabrication activities, material usage, and job completion details accurately
• Maintain traceability of fabricated parts in accordance with quality system requirements
• Report defects, non-conformities, and technical issues to supervisors or quality personnel promptly
• Support documentation requirements for inspection, audits, and quality verification processes
  Continuous Improvement
• Identify opportunities to improve fabrication quality, efficiency, and workflow processes
• Support lean manufacturing initiatives and best practice implementation within the workshop
• Participate in skills development, training, and certification programs to enhance welding capability and technical expertise
  Requirements
• Diploma or certification in Welding, Fabrication, Mechanical Technology, or a related discipline
• 5–8 years of hands-on experience in welding and fabrication within industrial, aerospace, or manufacturing environments
• Strong proficiency in TIG, MIG, and ARC welding techniques
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication instructions
• Experience in structural and precision fabrication work
• Familiarity with welding standards such as AWS or ASME is advantageous
• Strong manual dexterity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail
