Job Summary:

The key role of the Senior Technician is to assemble mechanical and electronic components in machines and equipment by using electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, or computer technologies. The job incumbent is also responsible for setting up equipment, conducting tests, perform reworks to ensure its proper functionality, identifying and resolving issues, and practicing safety regulations at all times.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop electrical and electronic harnesses, including selecting materials, creating prototypes, and iterating designs based on testing feedback.
  • Use IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-A-610 standards as benchmarks for conducting thorough inspections and tests, ensuring all components and assemblies meet or exceed industry quality standards.
  • Perform equipment set up, operation, equipment adjustments and minor preventive tasks in accordance with standard operating and engineering procedures.
  • Diagnose operational problems, mechanical errors and inefficiencies during the testing process of prototypes, assemblies and equipment.
  • Analyze test data, document findings, and make recommendations for improvements or changes based on testing outcomes.
  • Examine and evaluate finished prototypes and products before the full-scale production, to ensure they meet the quality standards and conform to the required specifications.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of the prototype and production equipment by cleaning, repairing or recalibrating it.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of all processes and assemblies in accordance with IPC standards, ensuring traceability and compliance with international quality and safety benchmarks.
  • Stay abreast with the latest methods of production and equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Provide technical execution and support to the engineers in developing and testing prototypes of new products and processes.
  • Implement and manage a system for tracking tools, components, and equipment, ensuring availability and efficient use of resources.
  • Adhere to IPC safety standards (IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001) in soldering and assembly processes, contributing to a safe working environment and product reliability.
  • Regularly update IPC certifications and stay informed on the latest standards and best practices to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with industry norms.
  • Provide or facilitate IPC certification training for team members, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the organization.

Experience & Education Qualifications:

  • Diploma degree in Electronics/ Mechatronics Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Minimum twelve years of technical experience in electronics, mechanical assemblies.  

Key Skills:

  • Advanced skills in various soldering techniques, understanding of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards for quality soldering on PCBs.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and diagrams; knowledge of electronic components and their functions within circuits.
  • Advanced skills in designing and constructing wire harnesses, including knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for cable and wire harness assemblies.
  • Intermediate skills in computer-aided design (CAD) software for creating detailed electronic schematics, mechanical designs, and 3D models.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing technologies, materials, and software for prototyping and part fabrication.
  • Intermediate skills in relevant programming languages (e.g., C, Python) for developing and debugging software for electronic devices.
  • Advanced understanding of IPC certification processes, requirements, and standards for electronics manufacturing and quality control.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records of inventory, project documentation, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage project timelines, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear and effective communication skills for collaborating with team members, engineers, and other departments.
  • Engagement in ongoing education and recertification to ensure skills and knowledge remain current with industry standards.
